Empire Paint of Mind

Recently Geoff was asked to rise to the 70th floor challenge of the Empire State Building and hand paint a series of 4  large decorative ovals in a style reminiscent of Wedgwood for  the launch of  Wedgwood's new luxury bedding collection, presented by Revman. The hand-painted designs are flat but are made to look like 3-D Bas reliefs using various shades of white and grey on Wedgwood's signature light blue background.

Here you can see our artisan Geoff putting the finishing touches on the Ivy leaves. While painting, we were treated to spectacular views of Manhattan on all sides! The view above is the building's famous silhouette in shadow facing the Northwest and the below faces Northeast toward the Upper East Side.

D. Porthault: His and Hers

What better way to show the luxurious, hand silk screened linens of D. Porthault than within Geoff's hand painted display of a well appointed home! Like birds of a fine feather, the patterns in the fabrics and Geoff's light and loose painting flock together. So if you happen to fly by the D. Porthault flagship on Mad ave by chance, we hope you will alight to take a glance.

Throwback: Trustees Dinner @ The Whitney Museum of American Art

In 2005, Geoff was given to design and create the decor for the annual Whitney Museum of American Art's Board of Trustees. Having majored in art at Pratt, Geoff was thrilled to have the opportunity to create his own installation inside a major art museum, even if only for a night!  Using chartreuse Dupioni silk swagging back and forth over the table and "through" the windows and out into the courtyard, taking advantage of the very high ceiling and surrounding spaces. The table was dressed with a bright orange runner with a continuous water-filled tray containing floating candles and orchids blossoms in chartreuse and orange. Geoff worked his magic in creating sculptural scrolls at the end of each fabric swag. The result is strong yet whimsical.

MAKE BIG SMALL! @ Tekserve

Tekserve wanted to make a big splash with a brand new small wonder! They were given the exclusive rights to launch the new MAC pro.  To 'make small big', the focus on the window was the giant orange sign, visible from across the street, using frosted plexi and vinyl lettering. The MAC pro is the star of the show lit with theatrical spotlights. A bright and shiny orange floor helps finish off the item and keeps with apple's 'reflective floors' motif.

For Tekserve's other smaller storefront window, we created a young film editor's studio using their state-of-the-art computers and fancy monitors and all the personal ephemera that would orbit the equipment; like used takeout containers, m&ms, old movie posters, and of special note, an actual Emmy, awarded to the new CEO of Tekserve for his previous work in television.  As a side note, the reason for the emphasis on the Village Voice cover is that 'The Social Network" movie was made using a similar Adobe set-up as that displayed in the window.

Armani Glam Rock

It's only apt that fashion blowups inspired by glam rockers would be framed in black 'undergound' velvet. We built the giant frames and carefully upholstered them in black velvet and trimmed them in blackened chrome.  Encased within the frame and in front of the large light box, we applied custom made plexi shelving 'grids' to display Armani's latest accessories.

Christmas Fireworks @ Wilderstein Historic Site

To celebrate the holidays at the Wilderstein Historic Site, Geoff was again invited to decorate the fabled music room within the grand estate. inspired by the room's circular motifs, This year's display is more of study in circular motion with lighted 'christmas trees' spiraling, circling up to the heavens, creating a wonderful warm glow. The white and gold music room is filled with all original hand carved woodwork, a beautiful plaster ceiling with a handpainted mural, all installed in 1889. It also features a suite of furniture designed for the room by famous new york Cabinet makers Pottier and Stymus.

The Poughkeepsie Journal published a story on Christmas Day about holiday decorations in various historic mansions along the Hudson river. A photograph of Geoff's installation was featured and as a result, the next day during the three hours Wilderstein was open for tours, over 160 visitors came to bask in the warm glow, setting a new one-day record of visitors to Wilderstein during the Christmas season. Glad tidings indeed!

Throwback: Sunglass Hut: Christmas with Georgia May Jagger 2012

Tis the season of gift-giving, warmth and sparkly sparkles. Designer Georgia May Jagger's holiday window at Sunglass Hut was an explosion of gold and red gift-wrapped boxes stacked and hanging in front of backdrops of golden glitter. Of special note, the front of the window features a mechanized gift box that we developed that opens and closes to expose (and hide) a lit sunglass display. Please have a look at the video below of our contraption in action!
