Throwback: Visit the GOBI Desert!

For many years, Geoff was given the honor of designing the GOBI Desert Dig for Children's Night at the American Museum of Natural History in Manhattan. Sponsored by Estee Lauder, Geoff also designed and produced all the signage for other exhibits as well as large banners on the museum's exterior.  Each year was a self imposed contest to make it better than the year before, though the concept remained the same-a giant sand box filled with little plastic dinosaurs for kids to dig up!FUN! Below are just two examples, the top one being the very first, inspired by Indiana Jones, replete with flaming cauldrons...

this example treats the Gobi Desert as a vacation destination in a giant 40's style billboard. Each floating letter featuring an aspect of prehistoric life or fossils, above a desert landscape with a single paleontologist surveying the site.

Going Back to Your Rootstein

Rootstein, maker of the finest mannequins in the world, has a showroom on w. 19th st. Famous for its spectacular window displays, the showroom behind the windows is equally as mesmerizing. Every 6 months, the showroom is re-done with a new theme in mind. For this market week, they have re-created an imaginary evening in the late 70's at Halston's infamous apartment in the Olympic Tower (at the end of this post we've included photos of his actual apartment)

Elements from his apartment were creatively re-purposed to fit the showroom space, making a dramatic backdrop for their new mannequin collection.  We built all of the black lacquered oak platforms, the floating staircase and faux mezzanie and the glassed in life-size terrarium.

Below are more photos of the decked out 'celebrity' mannequins reposted from The Bespoken: For Gentlemen blog. Amazingly, all of the clothing is designed by the creative director at Rootstein using the finest fabrics and incredible design details worthy of Halston's own work.

Christmas Time

According to their luxurious watches, it's time for Christmas at the Manhattan Audemars Piguet store on 57th St. and we decked out their front window with chic holiday cheer. Featuring a decorated 12-foot tree using gold and burgundy trimmings like gold flecked velvet leaves, globes of blown burgundy glass and ribbons. Beribboned gift boxes around the base of the tree highlighted an inset selection of diamond encrusted, gold, silver and platinum timepieces.

Snow & D. Porthault

Geoff's original drawing for the design of the winter windows at the luxury French Linen maker D. Porthault at 470 Park Ave.

The final result, a wintery scene featuring light- studded white laurel branches with perching doves reaching out over a pair of Porthault Blue velvet upholstered authentic 18th century chairs featuring a luxurious selection of D. Porthault's products.

The interior of the store was styled to showcase holday gifts and the latest arrivals.

PRESS: Geoff designs are featured on Guest of a Guest during a D. Porthault Holiday Party on December 18th.
